BOARD ELECTS NEW CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR

MARION COUNTY – The Marion County School Board has a new chairman and
vice-chair following a reorganizational meeting this morning. And it’s the first time in
history an African American has been selected for the lead position.

Bobby L. James, recently elected to the school board following a gubernatorial
appointment last year, is the new school board chairman. A retired educator with 35
years of district experience, James started with Marion County Public Schools in
1971 as a Forest High School teacher. He later served as principal at Fessenden
Elementary, the Phoenix Center, and Dunnellon High, a position he held until retiring
in 2006. James and his wife, Veronica, have one grown child.

Sue Mosley is the new vice-chair of the Marion County School Board. She was first
elected in 2002 then re-elected for a second four-year term in 2006. A mother of three,
private business owner, and long-time public education supporter, Mosley
graduated from Lake Weir High School and served in various school-related
organizations including the Public Education Foundation. She also has experience
as a former chairwoman and vice-chair of the school board and is known for her
leadership with the Friends of the Christmas Parade.

All five school board members including Ron Crawford, newly-elected Jackie Porter,
and out-going Chairwoman Judi Zanetti, voted unanimously on the leadership
positions at a special board meeting this morning.

James, Porter, Zanetti, and recently re-elected Superintendent of Schools Jim
Yancey all took their oaths of office this morning in a ceremony broadcast live on the
Marion Education Channel.
